What is the Honest Chisel?
We are Mike Johnson and Steve Ballans, a duo of craftsmen based here on the Gulf Coast. The Honest Chisel is our passion project, focused on creating high-quality, handcrafted woodwork, from unforgettable wedding game rentals to custom furniture.
What is your service area?
For our game rentals and furniture delivery, we proudly serve the Northwest Florida and South Alabama region, including Pensacola, Pace, Milton, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Foley, Gulf Shores, and surrounding communities.
Can I see your work in person?
While we don't have a traditional showroom, we often participate in local markets and wedding expos. Follow us on our social media channels to see where we'll be next!
How does the Rental Process work?
It's simple! Just browse our game packages, choose your favorites, and click reserve Now to check availability for your date. After your reservation, we will handle the rest, like delivery, set up everything before your event starts, and break it all down after the party is over.
How long is the rental period?
We use a single "event rate." This means you get the games for the entire duration of your event. We coordinate with you or your planner for drop-off and pickup times, so you don't have to worry about hourly limits.
What happens if it rains on my event day?
This is a great question! If the forecast calls for rain, we will contact you 24-48 hours before the event to discuss a backup plan. Our games can be set up in a covered area like a patio or tent. For cancellations due to severe weather, we offer a credit toward a future rental.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as soon as you have your event date confirmed, especially for popular wedding dates in the spring and fall. Our calendar can fill up 6-12 months in advance.
What is the process for a custom order?
Our process is a collaboration. It starts with your idea! You'll fill out our custom order form, and then we'll schedule a consultation to discuss your vision, materials, and budget. Once we finalize a design, you will be added to the project list and we only require a 50% deposit to begin the build. We'll even send you progress photos along the way!
What is your current lead time?
Lead times vary depending on the complexity of the project and our current schedule. You can check out our live project list here. We will contact you a week before the start of you project.
Can you work from a picture or a sketch?
Absolutely! Inspiration photos, Pinterest boards, and rough sketches are the best way to start. The more visual information you can provide, the better we can understand your vision and bring it to life.
How is the price of a custom piece determined?
The final price is based on three main factors: the size and complexity of the design, the type of wood and materials used, and the total labor time required to craft your piece to our high standards.
